Pokemon GO! Tips and Tricks and Swag

Pokemon Go has been one of the few bright spots in life recently with all of the horrific things happening in the world right now. Some of y'all hate it, while the rest of us - who know what's good for us - cannot get enough!!!

(Please don't take that seriously, I'm obviously biased and love the game ever so dearly. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion so there's nothing wrong with not liking the game...... sike.... jk)

For those of you who are beginners to the game, whether you have started already or naw, here are a few tips that I wish I knew when starting that will get you on the right path:

1. Leveling up
via VIrodoran
The easiest ways for you to level up are: capturing, evolving, and hatching Pokemon. Apart from this, you can go win gym battles. But, in the beginning who wants to do all that..? Here's a list of XP rewards based on actions you can make in the game:
  • 500 XP - Capture a New Pokémon
  • 500 XP - Evolve a Pokémon
  • 200 XP - Hatch a Pokémon
  • 150 XP - Defeating a Pokémon Trainer at Gym
  • 100 XP - Capture a Pokémon
  • 100 XP - Excellent Throw
  • 100 XP - Battling a Pokémon Trainer at Gym
  • 50 XP - Beat a Pokémon in Training at a Gym
  • 50 XP - Checking in at a Pokéstop
  • 50 XP - Great Throw
  • 10 XP - Nice Throw
  • 10 XP - Curve Ball

2. Lucky Egg
At level 9, you are rewarded with a Lucky Egg (or you can buy it). The Lucky Egg gives double the XP for all actions within a 30 minute time frame. The best way to take advantage of this is to catch as many scrub Pokemon as possible like Pidgey, Rattata, Weedle, etc. but DO NOT EVOLVE THEM. Save them all up for when you get a Lucky Egg and go ham in your 30 minutes. You should level up a couple of times.

3. Start off with Pikachu
Say "I choose you!" to the beloved Pikachu when you start off the game by simply ignoring the three original starters. When given the option to catch one of the three OGs, just walk around for a bit. The starters will follow you but after a while, Pikachu will become available for capture!

4. Hatching Eggs
When you start to utilize Pokestops, you'll get items like Pokeballs, Revives, Potions, etc etc and Eggs. There are three different kinds of eggs you can get: 2km, 5km and 10km. Each of these represent the amount of kilometers you need to travel to hatch the egg. (HINT: You must be traveling under 12mph for the distance to count)

5. Jolteon? Flareon? Vaporeon?
A new tip as also surfaced that allows you to control what your Eevee evolves into by changing the nickname for it. Unfortunately, since we're only dealing with 1st gen Pokemon, we only have three choices. Here are the following nicknames:

Sparky = Jolteon
Rainer = Vaporeon
Pyro = Flareon

That's all for now, so hope you enjoyed these tips and happy gaming!!
